The weekend was an absolutely great time. Even though I was kept pretty busy the whole time, the show was relatively relaxed and very friendly. I spent pretty much the whole weekend drawing, even when I got back to our hotel room, which was exhausting but fun. Jason Truong posted this head sketch of Zatanna I did for him, probably one of my favorites of the weekend.
Even though I was drawing the whole time, I did manage to get 20 minutes or so to go around talk it up. Big thanks go to Ty Buttars who helped me get up there and figure out what the heck I was doing. Another big thanks to Francis Manapul who couldn't have been nicer and showed Carla and I around Toronto a little. Agnes Garbowska was a delight and I got a great Kid Flash/Wonder Girl print from her. I was sitting across from Todd Nauck the whole weekend and was picking up drifters from his crowd. Todd was nice enough to come by and say hi, asking how the show was going for me. Steve Epting apparently used my Spirit print for reference on a con sketch, and was also very kind to me. I got to talk to Paul Rivoche about his upcoming issue of the Spirit (looks great!) and the time he drove to San Diego with Alex Toth. It's been said before, but comics really are one of the friendliest businesses.
Seeing good buddy Kyle Latino again is always fun, you should all hear his Aquaman pitch. Pure gold I tells ya! My wife Carla managed to survive the whole weekend, talking to people while I was sketching. The best part of the weekend was when she tracked down a guy wearing a Venom T-shirt for me because I couldn't remember what his symbol looked like for a sketch. The poor guy looked so bewildered, I hope the sketch of Colossus I did for him made up for it.
The prints sold better than I could have expected, but I've still got a few for those interested. If you're interested, I've got 10 of the Batman prints left, and plenty of the others. E-mail me at evantshaner@gmail.com and we'll figure it out for you if you'd like one. The Batman and Spider-Man prints are $20, and the Spirit print is $15, plus $7 shipping.
I'm really busy with two deadlines at the end of the month, so things may be a little thin around here for a little while, including Thor Thursdays and Flash Fridays. I hope to get back on track soon though.
3 of these things are not like the others:
Glad you had fun in Toronto, love your drawings by the way. Keep up the good work,
take care, Elli
Sounds like a good time. I'm sure the dude in the Venom shirt didn't mind.
Elli- Thanks so much!
Scott- I don't think so, or at least not when he got to our table and realized my wife wasn't going to kidnap or kill him. She said his face was priceless.
