Putting my foot where my mouth is

Today on twitter I was saying that Iron Man was a book that I would be poorly suited for, and probably wouldn't enjoy that much given the lack of possibility for facial expression. I figured I'd better at least try drawing Iron Man today, because the last time I actually drew him was in college for a newspaper cover, almost 2 years ago. I'm not going to pretend what I drew here is great, but I actually had more fun with this than I thought I would. Not to mention this sketch went MUCH faster than many of the recent sketches, much quicker than I expected. So that's me proving myself wrong and learning to shut up. I think a lot of my pessimistic attitude came from the awful redesign I did for Project Rooftop, which made me think I shouldn't be let anywhere near the character.

For the record, I like Iron Man, more so since the movie. I've liked him since I was a kid and always thought that image of Tony working in the shop like a blacksmith is one of the more iconic ones in comics. I just can't imagine trying to reproduce that armor panel after panel, so I guess that's my way of giving huge kudos to guys like Salvador Larroca who's been working on the book for a while now.

1 of these things are not like the others:

I love that you're trying you hand at him. I think (especially with today post) that you would do an awesome job on it. Especially the older armor.

And i totally agree, the blacksmith was always my favorite part about the character. So cool.
