This week on COMIC TWART

I'm racing to meet some deadlines this week, so my entry for COMIC TWART's Rocketeer theme came a little later than last week. Above is just a small clip of the whole thing. The pick was Steve Bryant's this week, and I for one think he made a great choice.

I said a little bit on the blog itself, but I was a HUGE Rocketeer fan as a kid. The Disney movie came out when I was 6-years old, and when you see a guy with a jet pack and a helmet that looks as cool as his does, you lose your 6-year old mind. I can't imagine there were many kids then who didn't strap on a fake jet pack and cardboard helmet and run around the backyard. Of course, that's me.

Much later on I found out the movie was inspired by the comics of the late great Dave Stevens, and they are incredible! Then you look back and see just how many artists those comics have influenced and it's amazing. And I only recently found out that Peevy was based on Doug Wildey! Go figure! I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy yet, but that recent IDW collection of the books (with new colors from the amazing Laura Martin) looks great.

So anyway, please go give mine a look, but make sure to look at everybody else's great stuff. I'm probably going to say this every week, but I am incredibly honored to be a part of this thing. These guys are all powerhouses and all deserve your attention.

I just found out today what the theme is for next week, and even following two of my favorites like Zorro and the Rocketeer, I am VERY excited about next week. These guys are going to take all the good characters before it's my turn, ha!

7 of these things are not like the others:

Brandon- It may not be for everybody, but next week's theme is definitely a favorite of mine and one I've talked about here.

Kyle- What? What's in the mail?

Agnes- That is awesome, how did I never think of oatmeal canisters?!

Matt- I'm not that much younger, man. I'm looking forward to picking up the IDW collection eventually.

Ev- Ha, well I'm not that young, man, relatively speaking.

Evan, I said it over at the COMIC TWART blog but I gotta say it here too, that Rocketeer is amazing! Man, I hope you make a print of this, I will pick it up in a heartbeat. Love the movie and I can't wait to get the IDW collection at some point. And I love what you guys are doing on the COMIC TWART blog!
