A Marvel Christmas

Well here's the Marvel Family Christmas page in color as I'd originally intended to post it. 4 days late, but it's still before the New Year, right? I didn't want to wait around until next year to post the colors so consider this a late Christmas gift.

What I didn't mention before is that with this I was able to put in three characters I really wanted to with my Captain Marvel page for the Comic Twart: Mister Atom, Uncle Dudley, and Hoppy the Marvel Bunny. A certain stretchy hero shows up too if you look hard enough.

I can't imagine I'll post much before the New Year so I'll see you all in 2011!

One Two Punch

Hey all. We got back yesterday from spending a week with my family in Michigan, which is why I wasn't able to finish up colors on the Marvel Family Christmas page I posted earlier. I've been working on it here and there since we got home so here's a panel from it featuring Cap and Mister Atom. I should have the whole thing colored and posted here in the next couple of days.

I managed to pick up a nasty cold bug while we were in Michigan and brought it back home with me. The last day or so have been the roughest of it so if you've e-mailed me in the last week or so know that I'll be getting back to you soon. Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, or at least didn't get sick!

Season's Greetings!

I was really hoping to get a chance to color this before Christmas, but it looks like I probably won't. Regardless I wanted to share this with you all. The box at the bottom was going to say "Season's Greetings from the Marvel Family" and the same goes to all of you from the Shaners. See you in the new year!

Jay Fosgitt's Hellboy

My good buddy Jay Fosgitt posted a short two page young Hellboy story the other day and I had to take a swing at coloring it. This is the first of the two pages, the lineart for which you can see here and here. Jay's phenomenal and I always have a blast coloring his work.

Commissioner

Today's commission, featuring Commissioner Gordon and Batgirl. The commissioner (snort) of this one asked for a recreation of this sample I did a few weeks back, but asked that I substitute in Gordon and Batgirl. This is the first time I've drawn either of them. Gordon was always one of my favorite parts of the animated series when I was a kid.

For Atlantis!

Here's something I cooked up yesterday of DC Comics' Aquaman and his manic depressive octopus, Topo. Tom Katers (formerly of the great Tom vs. Flash podcast, now of the great Tom vs. Aquaman) said this yesterday and as soon as I saw it I couldn't stop thinking about drawing these guys. I love the couple of Don Newton and Jim Aparo drawn Aquaman comics I've been able to get my hands on. He's a great character that seems to get a lot of misdirected scoffs because apparently it's easier to just make fun of him. Go figure.

Jinkies

Here's another piece from the latest batch of commissions, featuring Velma Dinkley of Scooby-Doo fame. It didn't dawn on me until I drew this that I totally married a Velma.

Speaking of commissions, here's the deal: I know I said that I was going to take a new round of commissions this month, but a lot of wild things happened at the end of November so I just won't have the time. I'm still finishing up the last round plus a few stragglers because I got sidetracked (which is entirely my fault) with some really exciting news that I hope to share very soon. I apologize that I didn't realize this sooner and that I've waited until the 10th to mention anything here. I do plan, and I don't see any reason this would change, to start taking them again in January. Thanks for your understanding, folks.

I'm not sure how I got this far along without drawing Hoppy the Marvel Bunny. I just don't know folks.

Great Caesar's COMIC TWART

The theme at the Comic Twart last week, as picked by Mitch Gerads, was Superman. You can see the full piece by clicking on the clip above, and make sure to check out all the other great entries from the guys. I'd just been thinking last week that it'd been a long time since I drawn the big blue boy scout and I was really starting to get the itch to do so.

I know I talk a lot about Captain Marvel but I'm truly a huge fan of Superman too. The 1978 movie is a favorite of mine and I can remember watching reruns of the George Reeves series as a kid and thinking Superman was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. The Death of Superman was the first comic book I read (say what you will) and I've really grown to love Curt Swan's work with the character recently. I say this about a lot of characters but it would sincerely be a thrill to work on anything involving Superman.

Someone wants to get...funky.

I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World for the first time on Wednesday morning and have since watched it 3 or 4 times. That bass battle is one of my favorite parts.
